| Wanted…. Speech Coaches for The 2012 Septima Clark Oratory Contest for Teenage Girls*
The African American Women’s Resource Center is seeking community activists, organizers, womanist and other progressive women to spend two hours every other Saturday for seven months coaching, teaching, training and preparing girls in the skill and art of researching, analyzing and preparing speeches. Must be committed to improving social and economic justice issues in the Community. Coaching Qualities: sTeach students theories and skills underlying the oratory contest sFacilitate acquisition of literary material and research information to improve understanding of social and economic justice issues sFoster skills in research, organization for speech development s Read contestants’ speeches, cases and literary pieces to assess for coherent and convincing messages s Conduct practices and drills to reinforce and assess skill development sReview judge requirements and motivate contestants to constantly improve s Nurture beginning students while challenging experienced students Qualifications: sEnrollment in college/university; bachelor’s or master’s degree preferred s Experience in reading, writing and speaking as it relates to social and economic justice s Experience with high school speech and/or debate; classroom teaching experience preferred s Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with contestants, parents, mentors and teachers
